Prime correctly (most streaks start here)

Shake well, then press the nib until paint flow is steady. If you flood the nib, you'll get blobs. If you under-prime, you'll get dry streaks. Aim for an even flow before you touch the page.

One clean pass, then let it dry

Acrylic paint starts drying quickly. If you keep going back over semi-dry paint, you lift and drag it, which creates streaks and texture.

Better than scrubbing

Do a second light layer after drying. Two light layers beat one heavy, overworked layer almost every time.

Choose the right tip size for the job

  • Fine tip: details and small highlights.
  • Medium/broad: smoother fills on larger shapes.
  • Brush tip: expressive strokes, but can show texture if you overwork it.
